Photography and the production of beautiful,
printed photographic art are my passions. Underlying all of the equipment,
technology, and technique is the shear joy of looking through the lens
and seeing the unique beauty in each subject.
In 1980 my wife told me, in no uncertain terms, to "get a hobby".
I had always enjoyed taking pictures but had never gotten serious about it. Since
I enjoyed the activity I said, "OK, but I seldom do things half way."
After acquiring some 35mm equipment I began by photographing a friend's
gymnastic club team at meets. It was small, fast moving objects in near darkness.

This provided me experience that has made studio
work seem like a stroll in the park. Once I started getting some good
shots I discovered that no one could really print the pictures to my
liking and vision. That gave birth to a small darkroom.
Over time the small dark room turned into a custom lab, complete
with processing machines. The lens collection grew and I took the leap up to
professional (medium format) equipment. The light stand with the simple umbrella
turned into a fully equipped studio with professional lighting and light modifiers.
The hung bed sheet has turned into large muslin backgrounds and expanses of seamless
paper.
